 |
|
Hi, I'm in Blue Mountain Zendo and also a member of Lehigh Valley Animal Rights Coalition. My Zen group is taking the next few months to reach out to the community in a path to follow our(we members) passions.
As an example, on October 3rd @7pm we are showing a film on "The Zen Life of DT Suzuki" at 521 E. 4th street, 3rd floor, Bethlehem. All proceeds going to the Leukemia Society, with a suggested $10 donation, everyone welcome.
My Passion is and has always been animals and animal rights. I have an opportunity to reach out to the community, hopefully to educate them about an aspect(s), of animal suffering. I have to present something in January, with any profits going to LVARC.
Anyone having any ideas for some projects to educate the community, please E-mail me back.
Sincerely, Jamie Miz |

First, welcome to the forum Jamie. As you can see it just recently went online. Hopefully we can get more people to participate because it can be a valubale tool for the movement.
Secondly, Congrats on pursuing your passions. I wish more people would do so. If you want to send me an email at lvanimalrights@gmail.com and let me know what your thoughts are so far I can then maybe offer some suggestions or at the very least try to.
Once again welcome !!! |

Hi Kango,
I tried to e-mail you but for some reason they do not go through. The only way I can is if they e-mail me and I press "reply". Something about internet server not being found.
Anyway, I think I narrowed it down. There is so much animals that are suffering. But I think vivisection is one of the most horific. That or mabey educate on "where your meat comes from", with some help from Peta's "Meat Out" campaign.
Any ideas? |

Hi Jamie, Those are two very good topics with much information to be found about both. If you plan to go with the vivisection topic there is a somewhat local PA resource that you can contact that may be able to help you. The name of the organization is the American Anti-Vivisection Society and they are located in Jenkintown, PA. The web address is http://www.aavs.org/index.php. You should get in contact with them because them should be a good resource.
The "where your meat comes from" is also a great idea. Months ago Peta had a video posted on their website that showed Tyson workers basically torturing chickens and one of the workers even urinated right next to the slaughter line. This was an undercover video of course. Here is the link http://www.torturedbytyson.com/
Another suggestions may be to show the correlation between animal abuse and the human criminal connection. For example I've read were some studies show that children that abuse animals are far more likely to commit violent crimes when they are adults. Here is a link to the American Humane web page about the topic http://www.americanhumane.org/site/PageServer?pagename=lk_about.
I hope this helps. Let me know how everthing works out for you. _________________ Why should man expect his prayer for mercy to be heard by What is above him when he shows no mercy to what is under him?
